Surgical investigations of stomach cancer in Korea (¥°)

Abstract
The stomach cancer is the second most common tumor among malignant tumors in Korea.
According to the series of report from well known clinics in Korea, the number of stomach cancer patients are seemed to be gradually increasing every year but yet we don¢¥t have found any reports about 5 years survival rate of stomach cancer in Korea.
Therefore we attempt the follow up observation for stomach cancer in Korea, and firstly we investigated the clinical and surgical status of stomach cancer in Korea for further study to follow up observations. .
This report is based on personal experience from Jan. 1962 to Jan. 1972 with 174 patients, which are randomly selected patients.
The results may be summarized as follows:
1. Made predominate the female by 1.8: 1.
2. This disease is predominate at 5 th decade of life, 62. 5%.
3. "A" blocd type is seemed to be more commonly affected than "0 blood type about 2 times 4. The most symptoms are non specific and there are epigastric dull pain, indigestion, tumor
mass.
5. The results of histopathological study are mostly adenocarcinoma and mostly located at antruni (87.3%). The number of patients of regional lymph node metastasis are 77.6%.
6. We attempted the stomach resection in most cases whether resectable or unresectable The resected cases are 57.4%.
7. Most common postop. erative complications are wound infection(5.7%), intest. final obstruction (6.3%), Pucomplications (1.2%).
8. 5 year survival among 42 operated patient in stomach cancer is 17.3%.
